Student Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in my research!

Prospective Ph.D. Students

I am actively looking for motivated students to join our group! If you are interested in working with me, please apply through the UVA CS PhD Program and mention me in your application. The application deadline is in December. Please note that I am unlikely to respond to individual emails regarding PhD applications prior to review.

Undergraduate or MSE Students

Ph.D. Students Looking for a Collaborator (on your project)

I love projects like this, so please reach out! I’ll ask a lot of questions to determine whether I have anything to contribute. I may also suggest collaborating with one of my students in addition or instead, but I’m generally interested in projects like these. This typically makes sense if your research is applied, and you have a project that would benefit from deeper technical background in Mechanism Design, Algorithmic Economics, Security, etc.

Ph.D. Students Looking for a Project (in my research area)

I also love projects like this, so please reach out! This typically makes sense if your research background is in Theoretical Computer Science, Optimization, or Math.

High School Students

It is completely OK to email me to ask about this, but please be prepared that I am unfortunately unable to supervise research for high school students. Research in Theoretical Computer Science requires significant technical background, and it takes time to get started. If you’re interested in experiencing Theoretical Computer Science, I strongly recommend checking out PACT.
